for Peer Recovery Support Services
Preamble
The Turning Point Center of Addison County (TPCAC) is dedicated to providing peer-based recovery support services with the highest ethical standards. All staff, volunteers, and recovery coaches are expected to uphold this Code of Ethics to foster trust, protect the integrity of recovery support services, and promote wellness among all individuals seeking recovery.
1. Advocacy and Recovery Support
We will advocate for the rights and needs of all individuals in recovery.
We will respect each person's autonomy, choices, and recovery pathways without imposing personal beliefs or biases.
We will act in the best interest of the individual we support, maintaining a focus on their recovery goals.
2. Personal Conduct
We will conduct ourselves with honesty, integrity, and respect.
We will maintain appropriate boundaries in all peer support relationships.
We will not engage in any form of harassment, discrimination, or exploitation.
We will avoid dual relationships that could impair objectivity or create conflicts of interest.
3. Confidentiality
We will respect and protect the confidentiality of all information disclosed during recovery support services, except when disclosure is required by law or for the safety of the individual or others.
We will obtain informed consent before sharing information.
4. Professional Responsibility
We will accurately represent our qualifications, certifications, and credentials.
We will seek supervision, training, and continuing education to enhance professional development.
We will practice within the scope of our training and refer individuals to licensed professionals when appropriate.
We will abstain from offering clinical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
5. Cultural Competency and Non-Discrimination
We will provide services with respect for cultural, ethnic, religious, sexual orientation, gender identity, and socio-economic diversity.
We will not discriminate against any individual or group.
6. Self-Care and Recovery Wellness
We recognize that personal wellness is vital to providing effective peer support.
We will maintain our own recovery and seek support if personal issues impair our ability to serve.
7. Ethical Violations and Accountability
We will report any ethical violations by peers or colleagues in a timely and appropriate manner.
We will accept responsibility for our own actions and their consequences.
8. Compliance with Laws and Policies
We will comply with all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
We will adhere to all policies and procedures of the Turning Point Center of Addison County.
Affirmation
All staff, volunteers, and recovery coaches must read, understand, and sign this Code of Ethics annually as a condition of service at TPCAC. This commitment ensures we provide ethical, respectful, and effective support to all individuals in their recovery journey.
